To paint a bouquet of flowers in a vase seems such a simple project. But for some it becomes a consuming passion, a pursuit of beauty for it’s own sake. Such is the explosive bliss of roses and peonies by Freya Powell, a painter who burns away the setting in a beam of white light to focus solely on the stem and blossom itself.
Now living in Sydney, Freya has taken on painting as the new medium through which she explores her visual concepts. Freya looks to botany for inspiration and notes her upbringing as something of a catalyst in this regard. " I grew up in a cottage with a quintessential English garden that was abundant with an enormous variety of plant life. I spent a large part of my childhood outside, growing plants from seeds and collecting flower specimens and hiding out in the woodlands." - Freya Powell.
